XML sitemap checker
Enter a site. We find its sitemaps the way search engines do (robots.txt first, then /sitemap.xml), follow sitemap indexes and gzipped files, count what they list, and fetch a random sample of the pages to see that each answers 200, does not redirect, is not noindex and is its own canonical.
Free, no sign-up. Fetched from AskYourStack in Germany as the server sends the page (no JavaScript).
What a sitemap should hold
Only the addresses you want in search: the final address of each page (no redirects), answering 200, without noindex, and pointing its canonical at itself. Anything else wastes crawling and sends Google mixed signals.
A sitemap file holds at most 50,000 addresses and 50 MB uncompressed; bigger sites split them and list the files in a sitemap index. lastmod dates help only when they are true: a date that changes on every request teaches search engines to ignore it.
Where search engines look
A Sitemap: line in robots.txt is read by every crawler. Submitting it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools adds reports on what was read and indexed.
With your AI
With AskYourStack your AI compares the sitemap with Search Console's indexing, finds pages that are in the sitemap but not indexed (and why), pages that get traffic but are missing from it, and on a server plan fixes the generator settings.
Ask your AI instead
AskYourStack connects Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to your Search Console, Google Analytics and the same page tools. Ask in plain words and it checks, compares and explains:
“Check my sitemaps against what Google has indexed and tell me which pages are missing or should not be there.”

Does every page need to be in the sitemap?
Every page you want found, yes; pages you do not want in search (filters, cart, account pages, thin tag pages) should stay out.
How many pages do you test?
Ten random addresses from the sitemaps, fetched as Googlebot. Your AI can test more, and the whole site with a crawl.
How many checks can I run?
Twelve an hour from one address. A free account lets your AI run them whenever you ask.
