AskYourStack is a remote MCP server you add to Claude as a custom connector. Claude can then look at your Linux server, run commands, edit files and fix what is wrong, while anything destructive waits for your approval.

Connect Claude to your server in four steps
- STEP 1
Connect your server
Sign up free, name your server in the dashboard and paste the one-line install as the user who owns your sites, or as root for the whole server. The agent calls out to AskYourStack over HTTPS, so no port is opened and no SSH key or password is stored anywhere.
- STEP 2
Add AskYourStack as a custom connector
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name it AskYourStack, paste https://askyourstack.com/mcp (the same address for everyone) and leave the OAuth fields empty. The same connector shows up in Claude Desktop.
- STEP 3
Sign in and allow
Press Connect. An AskYourStack page opens: sign in if it asks, check that it is Claude asking, and press Allow. Nothing secret to copy; the connection can be ended any time under Security in your dashboard. Prefer a private address instead? The dashboard offers that way too.

Ask
In a chat, make sure AskYourStack is switched on in the tools menu and ask: What runs on my server, and is anything wrong? Claude calls server_facts and health_report and answers in plain words.

The tools Claude gets

Commands and files
run, read_file and write_file on any of your servers, with every overwritten file kept.
Long jobs
start_job runs installs, compiles and imports in the background; job_output follows them.

db_query and db_dump use the site's own credentials, so the password never reaches the chat.

Server access, with you holding the keys
A change window you open
Nothing changes on a server until you open changes on it, for 1 to 8 hours, never for good. Outside that window Claude can look, diagnose and plan, and is told to ask you.
Approvals only you can give
Deleting data, dropping databases, touching SSH or the firewall: Claude gets a link and waits. Approving needs you signed in on askyourstack.com, so text planted in a log or web page cannot approve anything.
An open-source agent you can verify
The only thing on your server is public code (github.com/shopwhizzy/askyourstack-agent). Every release names its source commit, so you can rebuild it and compare the hash. It runs as an ordinary Linux user unless you choose root, and one command on the server locks it to reads.

Questions about AskYourStack and Claude
Does Claude get SSH access to my server?
No. Claude talks to AskYourStack, and AskYourStack hands the work to a small agent on your server that called out to it. There is no SSH key or password to leak, and you can stop the agent at any time with systemctl disable --now askyourstack-agent.
Which Claude plans can use custom connectors?
Custom connectors are a Claude feature, so it depends on your Claude plan and Anthropic's current limits. If you can see Add custom connector under Settings, Connectors, AskYourStack works. Claude Code works on every plan.
Can Claude delete something by mistake?
Destructive actions such as deleting folders, dropping databases, removing packages or touching SSH and the firewall do not run until you approve them, signed in on askyourstack.com. Changes run after /etc is saved, and Claude can snapshot folders and databases before risky work and roll them back.
Can Claude do SEO with AskYourStack?
Yes. Connect Google Search Console and, on Pro and Agency, Google Analytics 4, read-only. Claude then reads your queries, pages, indexing and traffic next to your server's access logs, Core Web Vitals and structured data, finds why pages are not indexed or slow or competing, and fixes the server side with your approval: redirects, robots.txt, canonicals, caching. New titles and content are saved as drafts for you to review.
Do I need to keep the chat open for long jobs?
No. Installs, compiles, imports and scans run as background jobs on the server. Claude starts them with start_job and checks on them with job_output, so they keep going if the chat closes.
